Today, I’m excited to share with you the first of many different tech tips that I get excited about. During day-to-day work when I come across these, whether it’s shared from a colleague or my curiosity leads to looking through the help documents for new ways to become more efficient, there’s nothing more elating than finding a little power up.
Oftentimes we take little things that that we use to on a day-to-day basis, for granted. Many people use a second monitor with their laptop or a computer with two screens if not more. I know I’ve used multiple screens with my laptop for years and often benefit from being able to move documents side to side and be able to compare or have e-mail open on one window and an accounting system open on another. If you haven’t tried a second monitor on your computer, most modern computers support this today, I can’t rave more about how this little benefit will help you in your daily work. If you haven’t tried it yet this, it may not be something that’s been on your mind – even borrowing a monitor with the right cable from a colleague or friend may give you a bit of a feel for how it will work. It’s well worth the money.
So today’s simple little tech tip is about how you can use a couple shortcuts on your keyboard to move a window from one screen to the other in Windows 10 and 11.
Here is how it works:
- Select a window or a program
- Once you have the window open on one screen press the windows button on your keyboard and the shift key, along with the left or right button to move to that other monitor.
- Whallah! if these three keys are pressed together, the program will move
- Now let’s try that again pressing the windows key and shift together with along with the left or right button on your keyboard should quickly move the window back to the other screen
- Use this combination to go left or right to move back and forth in a quick go without having to grab your mouse and drag the screen to the left or right.
I know there’s some power users out there that might even have a screen above the other, but this works with those as well if you press the windows key and shift and up or down to move your screen above or below.
In conclusion, if you have a second screen attached to your laptop and or a computer with multiple screens, I recommend you give this a quick go. It’s one of my favorite tech tips then I’m excited to share.
Wishing you a great next few days. Until next time, take care
